September 1st, 1997, Shanghai China 5000 copies printed
Amazing little book which was unique amongst Chinese photography books when it was printed. Begins with single pages dedicated to a particular camera, and a recent photo taken with that camera. Included are photos taken by a Canon Original, and a Red Flag 20 Leica copy. I'm encouraged that someone actually took pictures with these cameras. The quality of many of the shots is mediocre and is certainly not helped by the use of color film in many of the prewar cameras. "A" for effort, "C-" for execution. In addition they have seen fit to supplement their section on Chinese cameras with two pictures stolen from my book "Cameras of the People's Republic of China." What bothers me most is that they could have used the pictures with my blessing if they had only asked. There are several Chinese cameras pictured that I have never seen before, and a couple which I have seen, but never got to take a picture of. If you ever get a chance to buy one, this book would make an interesting addition to your bookshelf.
